This Mandela Month, Greendale House is inviting businesses to partner with us by donating surplus stock to our four thrift shops. Inspired by Mandela Day on 18 July, companies can take part throughout the month, helping to turn surplus goods into patient care.

Founded in 1979 as the first hospice in Africa, Greendale House supports more than 400 patients, family members and carers every day across Johannesburg, Soweto and Lenasia through home-based care, inpatient care, counselling, social work, bereavement support and end-of-life care.

The proceeds from donated goods help fund this care.

• A donated lounge suite or a large stock donation could help fund a day or more of specialist nursing care in our Inpatient Unit.
• A box of homeware, toys or books could help fund several home visits by a palliative care nurse.
• The proceeds from clothing sales could help provide counselling and social work support to families facing illness, grief and loss.

Businesses that wish to involve their employees can also organise workplace donation drives or volunteer in our thrift shops as part of their Mandela Day or Mandela Month activities.

Tax Benefits

Greendale House can issue Section 18A certificates for qualifying donations.

In addition to making a meaningful social impact, your business may be able to claim tax relief on qualifying gifts in kind. Our team will gladly discuss the process and help ensure donations are managed efficiently and professionally.
