Hold a Workplace Donation Drive for Hospice

This Mandela Month, invite your staff to make a practical difference in the lives of people facing serious illness or needing end-of-life care. Inspired by Mandela Day on 18 July, workplace donation drives can take place at any time during July.

Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care is asking businesses across Johannesburg to hold workplace donation drives in support of our four thrift shops, helping to fund palliative and hospice care for patients and families who need it most.

Founded in 1979 as the first hospice in Africa, Greendale House now supports more than 400 patients, family members and carers every day across Johannesburg, Soweto and Lenasia through home-based care, inpatient care, counselling, social work, bereavement support and end-of-life care.

Our thrift shops play an important role in making this care possible. The proceeds from donated goods help fund home nursing visits, oxygen therapy, counselling and specialist care in our Inpatient Unit.

How your business can help

Encourage staff to donate good quality items they no longer need.

Many businesses choose to run their donation drive for one or two weeks during July, culminating on Mandela Day or continuing beyond it.

Your donation drive can focus on a single category, such as:

• Clothing and accessories
• Books and media
• Toys and games

Or it can include a wider range of items:

• Homeware and décor
• Linen and kitchenware
• Furniture
• Sporting goods
• Garden items

Every item donated is sold through our thrift shops, raising funds for patient care while giving useful goods a second life.
