For 36 years, the Greendale House Tree of Light has been a beloved tradition, offering a space to remember and honour those who matter most. This November, we invite you to be a part of this touching event. Your support ensures that we can continue to provide essential and compassionate care and support to our patient and their families. This is not just an event – it is an opportunity to light a memory and support our vital work.

A Beacon of Compassion in Johannesburg

For over three decades, our Tree of Light Campaign has been a source of hope for families facing the challenges of serious illness. What makes this initiative truly special is its direct impact! Every rand raised goes straight to providing essential hospice and palliative care services for patients who would otherwise be unable to afford them.

As Tracy Duvula powerfully shared about her sister’s cancer journey:

“During the difficult months as my sister’s condition worsened, we felt completely helpless and didn’t know where to turn. When we contacted Greendale House, they immediately rallied their team around us. Within days, they were providing comprehensive care for my sister at home – managing her pain, offering counselling for the children, and supporting our family in more ways than we could have ever imagined.”

This is the real essence of Greendale House: Compassionate care when families need it most.

A Celebration for Everyone

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 29 November at Sacred Heart College in Observatory, Johannesburg. From 17:00 to 19:40, the grounds will transform into a festival of light, memory, and joy.

What can you expect? A magical evening featuring:

  • A spectacular laser light show that illuminates the night sky
  • Entertainment for all ages, including performances by local celebrities and talented students from Sacred Heart College
  • Family-friendly activities, including face painting for children
  • Food vendors offering delicious refreshments (or bring your own picnic basket!)
  • Tree of Light merchandise, globes, and candles available for purchase
  • A warm community atmosphere where memories are honoured and new ones created

Best of all, entrance is FREE (with just R40 for safe parking), making this meaningful event accessible to everyone.

More Than an Event: A Movement of Care

When Nonhlanhla Maduma found herself unable to walk after TB complications in 2023, her daughter, still in matric, became her primary caregiver. Their story could have been one of hardship and interrupted education. Instead, thanks to Greendale House’s intervention, Nonhlanhla proudly shares:

“I can move more, I can sit in the wheelchair now, I can handle a phone. I can do more mother duties.”

This is the real impact of your support: dignity restored, families supported, and care provided where it’s needed most.

How You Can Be Part of This Beautiful Legacy

The Tree of Light offers multiple ways to participate:

  1. Attend the Event: Bring your family and friends on 29 November for an unforgettable evening of commemoration and celebration
  2. Dedicate a Globe: Purchase a virtual globe at www.tree-of-light.co.za and add a personal message in memory of someone special
  3. Make a Donation: Support via Payfast or EFT (all donations are tax-deductible with Section 18A certificates issued)

With our goal of raising R600,000 by December 2025, every contribution makes a difference. As one regular supporter noted, “This is the donation I feel best about making each year” because 100% of funds directly support patient care.

Join Us for a Night of Remembrance

In a world where the cost of living continues to rise, the gift of compassionate care becomes even more precious. Our Tree of Light event isn’t just about remembering those we’ve lost; it’s about ensuring that those still with us receive the dignified, specialised care they deserve in their time of need.

Join us on the 29th of November as we illuminate the night with hope, memory, and the power of community care. Together, we can ensure no one faces serious illness alone.
