We’re thrilled to announce the return of the beloved Polofields Crossing Book Fair in support of Greendale House on September 13th & 14th, 2025, from 9 am to 4 pm each day.
As many of our supporters know, we’ve recently undergone a name change from HospiceWits to Greendale House Palliative and Hospice Care. While our name has changed, our mission remains steadfast: providing compassionate care and support to those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families. The Polofields Crossing Book Fair has long been one of our most cherished fundraising events, and we couldn’t be more grateful for their continued partnership.
A Special Partnership with Polofields Crossing
The team at Polofields Crossing has once again opened their hearts and their beautiful centre to support our cause. Despite ongoing renovations, they’ve creatively reimagined this year’s Book Fair experience. Instead of the traditional tent, book lovers will enjoy a delightful literary journey throughout the centre with specially placed book carts and reading corners.
We’re particularly excited about the thoughtful layout they’ve designed:
• A reading corner near Westpack
• A vibrant hub in the SPAR area featuring books and our “Blooms of Hope” initiative, complete with activities for children, including face painting, balloon artists, and a juggler
• A rustic book display in the restaurant section
Expanding to Waterfall Wilds
For the first time ever, we’re thrilled to announce that the Book Fair is expanding to include Waterfall Wilds! With two book carts—one in front of Nostimo and another near Turn & Tender—we’re able to reach even more supporters and spread awareness about our work while offering wonderful reading materials.
Books That Support Our Mission
Every book purchased at the book fair directly supports our work at Greendale House. Your participation helps us provide:
• Specialised palliative care to patients in their homes and our in-patient units
• Counselling and support for families facing difficult times
• Training for healthcare professionals in palliative care approaches
• Community outreach programme to underserved areas
“Date Night with a Book” Returns
We’re excited to see “Date Night with a Book” feature again! These mystery books come wrapped with just a few tantalising clues about what’s inside—a perfect way to discover your next favourite read while supporting our cause.
Beyond the Book Fair: Our Thrift Shops & Donation Services
While the Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to support Greendale House, we’d like to remind our community that we operate thrift shops year-round, where you can both shop for treasures and donate items.
Donation Pickup Services: Can’t make it to the Book Fair? We offer convenient pickup services for donations of books, furniture, clothing, and household items. Simply call our Head Office at +27 11 483 9100 to arrange a collection.
Thrift Shop Locations: We welcome donations at any of our thrift shop locations throughout Johannesburg. These shops are vital to our fundraising efforts and provide affordable goods to our community while supporting our mission.
