We\u2019re thrilled to announce the return of the beloved Polofields Crossing Book Fair in support of Greendale House on September 13th & 14th, 2025, from 9 am to 4 pm each day.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As many of our supporters know, we\u2019ve recently undergone a name change from HospiceWits to Greendale House Palliative and Hospice Care. While our name has changed, our mission remains steadfast: providing compassionate care and support to those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families. The Polofields Crossing Book Fair has long been one of our most cherished fundraising events, and we couldn\u2019t be more grateful for their continued partnership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Special Partnership with Polofields Crossing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team at Polofields Crossing has once again opened their hearts and their beautiful centre to support our cause. Despite ongoing renovations, they\u2019ve creatively reimagined this year\u2019s Book Fair experience. Instead of the traditional tent, book lovers will enjoy a delightful literary journey throughout the centre with specially placed book carts and reading corners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re particularly excited about the thoughtful layout they\u2019ve designed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 A reading corner near Westpack<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 A vibrant hub in the SPAR area featuring books and our \u201cBlooms of Hope\u201d initiative, complete with activities for children, including face painting, balloon artists, and a juggler
\u2022 A rustic book display in the restaurant section<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expanding to Waterfall Wilds<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time ever, we\u2019re thrilled to announce that the Book Fair is expanding to include Waterfall Wilds! With two book carts\u2014one in front of Nostimo and another near Turn & Tender\u2014we\u2019re able to reach even more supporters and spread awareness about our work while offering wonderful reading materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Books That Support Our Mission<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every book purchased at the book fair directly supports our work at Greendale House. Your participation helps us provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Specialised palliative care to patients in their homes and our in-patient units
\u2022 Counselling and support for families facing difficult times
\u2022 Training for healthcare professionals in palliative care approaches
\u2022 Community outreach programme to underserved areas<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDate Night with a Book\u201d Returns<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re excited to see \u201cDate Night with a Book\u201d feature again! These mystery books come wrapped with just a few tantalising clues about what\u2019s inside\u2014a perfect way to discover your next favourite read while supporting our cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the Book Fair: Our Thrift Shops & Donation Services<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to support Greendale House, we\u2019d like to remind our community that we operate thrift shops year-round, where you can both shop for treasures and donate items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Donation Pickup Services<\/strong>: Can\u2019t make it to the Book Fair? We offer convenient pickup services for donations of books, furniture, clothing, and household items. Simply call our Head Office at +27 11 483 9100 to arrange a collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thrift Shop Locations<\/strong>: We welcome donations at any of our thrift shop locations throughout Johannesburg. These shops are vital to our fundraising efforts and provide affordable goods to our community while supporting our mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
