We're reaching out to you today with hearts full of hope and a story we can't wait to share. It's about the incredible work we do here at Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care (previously trading as HospiceWits), and how you can be a part of it – while also giving your wallet a little breather. Intrigued? Let's take a closer look.
Every day, our team at Greendale House witness small miracles. We’re not just talking about the care we provide within our walls. Our dedicated nurses are out there, rain or sunshine, bringing comfort, medical expertise, and a whole lot of heart right to the doorsteps of people in Johannesburg and Soweto who are battling serious life-threatening illnesses. It’s not just a job for us – it’s a calling.
Â
Now, keeping this vital service going takes resources. Each month, we need to raise R300,000 to ensure our home visits continue. It’s a big number, we know, but we’ve seen the incredible generosity of South Africans time and time again. We believe in the power of generous community spirit, and that’s where you come in.
Â
Here’s the best part – by supporting Greendale House, you’re not just helping others; you could be helping yourself too! Let’s talk about those tax benefits:
Â
Tax Deductions: Your donations to us? They’re tax-deductible. How’s that for a win-win?
Generous Limits: You can deduct up to 10% of your taxable income.
Section 18A: We’ll sort you out with a Section 18A tax certificate – your golden ticket to those deductions.
Â
Beyond Cash:
Â
Thrift Shop Donations: Did you know that donating goods to our thrift shops can also provide you with tax advantages? If you donate gently used items of value to our thrift shops, we can issue a Section 18A certificate based on a fair market valuation of the items. You can donate a range of items, such as clothing, furniture, books, toys, kitchenware and appliances (however, we are not able to accept damaged or broken items).
Â
Property Donations: While the South African Revenue Service (SARS) primarily discusses cash donations, property donations are also recognised. The donations tax is levied on the value of the property donated.
Â
Calling All Businesses: Companies, we’re looking at you too! These tax benefits are a great way to boost your corporate social responsibility.
Â
Now, we don’t want to rush you, but there’s a bit of a ticking clock situation. The tax year wraps up on 28 February 2025. Make a difference and claim those deductions. It’s an opportunity too good to pass up!
Â
Your donation could bring a world of comfort to someone fighting a tough battle, right in the warmth of their own home. And knowing you’re making a difference while also saving on taxes?  It’s a win for everyone – your heart, your community, and your finances!
