HospiceWits Rebrands to Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care

A New Chapter in Compassionate Care

As HospiceWits celebrates its 45th anniversary, the renowned Johannesburg-based hospice care provider is entering an exciting new chapter. In a move that reflects its evolving mission and expanded services, HospiceWits is rebranding to Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care. This transformation, set to roll out gradually starting this October, marks a significant milestone in the organisation's journey of compassionate care.

A Legacy of Care

For nearly half a century, HospiceWits has been a beacon of hope and comfort for countless individuals and families in Johannesburg. The rebranding to Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care is not just a change in name, but a reaffirmation of the organisation’s commitment to providing high-quality, comprehensive care to those facing life-limiting illnesses.

More Than a Name Change

While the name is changing, the core values and dedication that have defined HospiceWits for 45 years remain steadfast. Jacqui Kaye, Chief Executive Officer, emphasises, “We want to reassure you that, in spite of the change to our name, we remain the same organisation that has served Johannesburg for 45 years. Our services will continue into the future, with the same commitment to quality that you have come to know.”

Addressing Misconceptions

The rebranding initiative aims to address several misconceptions about the organisation’s services:

  1. Beyond End-of-Life Care: Many still believe that HospiceWits only provides care at the end of life. However, the organisation has long offered long-term palliative care services to help people with life-limiting illnesses manage pain and control symptoms throughout their journey.
  2. Home-Based Care: The new brand will help increase awareness of their home-based care programmes, which complement the in-patient unit services.
  3. Expanded Reach: Greendale House aims to serve more people, for longer periods, in the most appropriate settings.

What This Means for Supporters and Beneficiaries

The organisation has taken great care to ensure a smooth transition for all stakeholders:

  • Continuity of Services: All services will continue uninterrupted, with the same level of care and commitment.
  • Contact Information: While email addresses and the website will be updated, measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted communication. Emails sent to existing addresses will be automatically forwarded, and the current website will redirect to the new one.
  • Financial Matters: There are no changes to the organisation’s PBO status, ability to issue Section 18A certificates, or bank account information. Donations and payments can be made as before.
  • Club 2000 Lottery: For participants in the Club 2000 lottery, all prize draws, payments, and memberships will continue without any changes.

A Gradual Rollout

The rebranding process will be phased:

  • Supporters were introduced to the new brand at the 45th anniversary celebration in September.
  • Starting from this October, email addresses, website, and social media pages will be updated.
  • Throughout the month, charity shops and other materials will adopt the new branding.

Looking to the Future

This rebranding is just the beginning of Greendale House’s efforts to update perceptions and better reflect the breadth of its services. The organisation hopes to strengthen partnerships and increase its impact in the community.

Anthony Manion, Fundraising and Events Manager, states, “By highlighting our comprehensive approach, we aim to strengthen partnerships and extend our reach to those in need.”

Join the Journey

As Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care commences this new chapter, they invite supporters, beneficiaries, and the community at large to join them in spreading awareness about their expanded services and renewed commitment to compassionate care.

The transformation from HospiceWits to Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care is more than a name change—it’s a recommitment to serving the Johannesburg community with enhanced palliative and hospice care services.
